Australians are "sports mad". In fact, many would argue that "Sports is religion" in Australia.

To reach this vigourous nation with the good news about Jesus the sporting world must be factored in. Sports play too much of a role in the average Australian's life to be ignored or neglected.

Athletes in Action (AIA) seeks to use this obession within sports to further the cause of the greatest champion ever lived - Jesus of Nazareth. This goal will be accomplished at the most basic level: by working personally with sports people as strategic influencers, "connecting, winning, building, training and sending" them into thier specific sports community.

AIA is the national sports ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ Australia. As such, it shares the common mission of seeking to establish movements throughout Australia so that everyone knows someone who truly follow Jesus.

Our six full time missionaries have a "specific sport" focus, giving their personal attention to their sport of choice. At present our sports include basketball, surf life-saving, rugby, rodeo and hockey. 

What services does AIA provide for Christians?

AIA provides outreach opportunities to those involved in sports through clinics, competitive tours and evangelistic materials distribution at major sports events. AIA also provides follow-up, mentoring and mission skills training for Christian athletes at all levels.

AIA is always open to discussing full time staff involvement with those who have a burden and a heart for mission within a specific sport. Experience and "conections" within a sport of choice would help tremendously. AIA is finding increasing opportuities for chaplains in surf life-saving and rugby union. Chaplains would be part-time volunteers and preferably trained ministers or pastors. From time to time AIA need billeting for travelling evangelistic sports teams.

We network very closely wiht other ministries of Campus Crusade for Christ Australia and with Sports Chaplaincy Australia. We serve in cooperative ministry in regard to outreach at major sporting events and in providing chaplains upon request for various sports clubs.
