Campus Crusade for Christ Australia HQ Relocating to Melbourne
After 40 years of being based in Sydney, Campus Crusade for Christ Australia (CCCA) announced plans to relocate its
National Head Quarters to Melbourne by the end of 2007. National Director Bill Hodgson says, “This is a significant strategic move to build on the success and fruitfulness of the first 40 years whilst positioning for greatest effectiveness into the future”.
In the forty years since being founded in 1967 by Rev Geoff Fletcher as Lay Institute For Evangelism (LIFE), CCCA has partnered with local churches and mission agencies to help reach Australians and mobilise people and resources to help reach the world for Christ. Millions in Australia have been presented with the opportunity to respond to Christ (the Jesus Film alone as one strategy saw 750,000 copies distributed through churches which on conservative estimates would have been seen by around 1.5 million people not counting TV showings at Easter or the early 16mm film versions). Yet the primary focus of CCCA over the years has been far more than evangelism as through a deliberate process of contacting people, winning them to Christ, building them in their faith, training them in personal spiritual multiplication and sending them into their world as spiritual multipliers.
The relocation will include the National Director, HQ Core Services and the national leadership of Oz Family Life and Youth Ministries Australia. “This is in no way a withdrawal from Sydney,” Bill says, “The present field work in the Sydney area will continue uninterrupted and expand in years to come. It is just relocation of the national HQ operational base and National Director’s team”.
CCCA has never owned a HQ property in its 40 year history. This was not an issue when it was smaller but as the ministry has grown the need for a “home” increases. The increasing cost of living in Sydney, increasing congestion, housing squeeze, life style pressure as well as the opportunity to position for more effective growth in the southern ‘AFL’ states all factor in the choice of Melbourne. Given one of CCCA’s main targets is university students it is strategic that Melbourne has the second largest uni student population – both Aussie and international students - in Australia. It is strategic in many ways and provides a good context for partnership, recruiting volunteers and wider options for our people lifestyle choices especially families. Whilst not reducing our active involvement in Sydney the HQ move will provide a catalyst for expanded growth in Melbourne and the southern states. Student Life, CCCA’s University ministry will continue to have it’s national office in Toowoomba, Qld. Youth Ministries Australia and Oz Family Life will relocate their national leadership to Melbourne as part of the HQ move. The other filed ministries (eg. AIA, GAiN, CRAM, etc) will remain based in Sydney.
“This is a huge faith move for us and we are trusting God that our many supporters and friends form over the last 40 years of our history will embrace the opportunity to make it happen through their faithful prayer and generous financial support. We have a faith goal of raising $500,000 toward the purchase of a suitable property. This will free us in the future to focus more resources, equip workers and support the field teams in their mission task”.
As an evangelistic mission organisation CCCA has 140 full time team members working in Australia and abroad. CCCA’s mission is to build spiritual movements everywhere so that everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus. This involves working to connect with people in their world, win them to Christ, build them in the faith, train them how to reach their peers and sending them to multiply that process I the lives of others in their world. Our mission targets Youth,Families, Young adults (Uni), Internationals (here and abroad) and Strategic Influencers/leaders. This is expressed through 12 different field ministries including Student Life, Youth Ministries Australia, Jesus Gift To the Nation (Jesus film), Athletes in Action, Oz Family Life, Global Aid Network (GAiN), Creative Arts Ministry (CRAM), Here’s Life, Children of the World, Church Dynamics, Women Today and short term Mission projects.
